Hi folks -- theMOVE (the MA Outdoor Volunteer Experience) is seeking out someone stellar to serve as our new (part-time) PROGRAM COORDINATOR (PAID). We're also seeking out some more stellar folks for great opportunities as our EDUCATOR-IN-RESIDENCE (unpaid) and our IT COORDINATOR (unpaid). Please see the Program Coordinator description below.
POSITION: Program Coordinator (part-time)
COMPENSATION: Monthly stipend (calculated at $12-15 per hour depending on experience)
HOURS: 8-12 hours per week (flexible scheduling)
DATES: Starting ASAP and ending mid-November
INTRODUCTION theMOVE works to create a more engaged public citizenry, through farm-based social justice experiential learning. We do this by organizing reflective farm-volunteer trips for diverse groups throughout the Boston area. We organize these trips for community groups (both youth and adult), and we also set up open signup trips for individual adults and families. Our belief is that performing a bit of work on a farm – for many reasons – is an ideal platform for developing a greater understanding of our local and global connections as consumers (and producers). 2010 has been a pilot year for the organization, and we have built up considerable momentum so far. We are now seeking an energetic Program Coordinator who will help us see our program through to the end of the growing season.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES The Program Coordinator will have two major responsibilities: (1) volunteer event planning and (2) fundraising. (1) Event Planning: Managing most logistics for our volunteer trips – including communicating heavily with community groups and farms, developing logistics plans, handling signups, and processing post-trip feedback. (2) Fundraising: Seeking out relevant grants and taking the lead on writing applications, managing our entry into online fundraising competitions, and helping us to further develop our paid membership program.
KEY QUALITIES SOUGHT Foremost, we’re looking for someone who is extremely hardworking – who deeply enjoys the satisfaction of a finished product. The ideal candidate should also be adaptable enough to handle a flexible work environment (a home office), a flexible schedule (mostly working when you are able – but do you have the self-discipline, the motivation, the personal initiative?), and a flexible work list (sometimes clear, sometimes not fully defined – since we’re still developing). We’re seeking someone at least equally as motivated by our mission (and it’s okay if you feel you would need further follow-up to figure that out) as by the financial compensation.
Other qualities sought: * Previous event planning experience – someone who is an good event-planner by nature * Solid writing and verbal communication skills * Comfort working with others, building relationships, and managing conflict * Comfort with computer/web applications – especially Microsoft Excel, Google Docs, and Google Groups * Previous grant-writing and/or fundraising experience (appreciated but not necessary)
COMPENSATION + LOGISTICS Compensation will be a monthly stipend – to be determined by your level of experience and hourly commitment. Attendance and help at our volunteer events is appreciated, but is optional, and would be treated as volunteer time. We would meet at a regular weekly meeting time at our home office in Porter Square, and you would be asked to dedicate another block of time weekly (as your schedule permits) to working on projects from home.
This role may extend beyond mid-November – if you are interested, and if funding allows for it.
NEXT STEPS Please send a letter of interest and resume via email to dave@getoutma.org (with the subject “Program Coordinator Application”), describing why you are excited about this role, and what you are able to offer to it. Thank you! |
