BYEN is seeking motivated individuals for the AmeriCorps Everyday Explorers program.

AmeriCorps is a national network of organizations with the goal of promoting community service at a grassroots level. AmeriCorps programs offer people who are committed to their communities an opportunity to serve in after-school programs and share their commitment with young people. The Everyday Explorers program focuses on science and technology related service activities, primarily environmental projects.

In addition to a bi-weekly living allowance, members receive an education award upon completion of their term of service.
The anticipated positions will require 450 - 900 hours of service for the term starting September 2010 and ending June or August 2011. This includes a minimum of 15 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 5 days per week. All members must attend mandatory Americorps meetings and trainings (including some Saturday sessions). They must also participate in Americorps Community Service Days.

Qualifications:

-A strong background, or serious interest, in the field of youth development
-Must be available to work standard shift hours: Monday through Friday, 2:30 – 6:00pm, as well as occasional trainings and special events outside of those hours. 16 hours of professional development are also required within the first year of employment.
-A minimum requirement of 10 hours of service to BYEN and/or at BYEN events
-All after school program staff must be fingerprinted and proven free of any criminal convictions before being hired. A current physical and TB/Mantoux test are also required.
