Guest Speaker:  Mike CermakEJAM
Mike will share and discuss a film created by young people from Hyde Square Task Force titled Planting For Peace (P4P).

Planting For Peace: Bury Seeds, Not Bodies
Planting for Peace (P4P)
is not your typical film about gardening. This film takes a close look at the youth workers who are powering an exciting movement to revolutionize urban food systems. As new farmers markets, urban farms and community gardens sprout in urban communities of color few have focused on the young people working the markets and gardens. These new jobs not only help bring healthy, locally grown food to otherwise food deserted areas but they also develop young leaders by giving them meaningful work. P4P connects the anti-violence movement to the new opportunities in the urban green movementshowing how closely related they really are. Topics include, food justice, food deserts, guerilla gardening, victory gardens and the Boston Bounty Bucks program that doubles the value of food stamps at farmer's markets.

Organizational Highlight:  Young People from ABCD's GIS Program will present their work.

Dinner will be provided. Contact Helen at

This spring we have seen a number of Boston-based internships made available for young people with the National Park Service and Student Conservation Association.  At Friday's breakfast we will hear from National Park Service and Student Conservation Association professionals about these opportunities, their agencies, and formake them ork for the young people in the BYEN's network of programs.

Network members are working together to help identify next step opportunities for their program graduates.  At this month's breakfast we will explore internships available through the National Park Service's Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) Program and Student Conservation Association, make connections with local professionals in these agencies, provide feedback about these opportunities and make candidate recommendations for these internships in Boston's outdoors.
